St. Maurus Saving St. Placidus

Abbey Church of SS. George and Martin, Weltenburg, Bavaria

This miracle recounted by St. Gregory was a popular subject in Benedictine monasteries. In the story, St. Maurus rushed to save the boy, running on the surface of the water. When Placidus grew up he entered the order and according to a late account was murdered by Saracen pirates in Sicily.
